WHAT' IS MATER-BI?

Biodegradable and Compostable by nature.
From maize to Mater-Bi™, the new biopolymer obtained from renewable raw materials. Manufactured in the factory in Terni, Mater-Bi™ comes in pellets form, and can be processed using the most common transformation techniques to make bioplastic products whose characteristics are identical to those of traditional plastics, but which are perfectly biodegradable and compostable. After use, products made of Mater-Bi™ biodegrade on average, in the time of one composting cycle.

As versatile as plastic.
Mater-Bi™ can be used in an infinite number of ways, and in various fields of application. The extreme flexibility of the three production lines in the factory in Terni means that the Mater-Bi™ output can be customised to respond to the most varied demands: from agriculture to the manufacturing industry, from packaging to disposable articles, to toys, accessories of various kinds, biofillers.

From the most innovative research
In nature, starch comes in crystalline form, with linear (amylose) and branched (amylin) molecules. By breaking the original structure of the starch (destructurization), Novamont researchers were able to recreate a new supermolecular order by forming complexes between the amylose and natural or synthetic molecules. These complexes create a new crystalline order, which increases the water-resistance and changes the mechanical properties of the original starch, without modifying its chemical structure. This technology allows the creation of a number of Mater-Bi™ grades for specific applications..
